Antique Silver-Inlaid Black Coral Prayer Beads from Yemen P_BCSI_6. This is strand of 117 antique black coral silver-inlaid prayer beads from Yemen. Called "yusr" in Yemen, these beads are from a tasbih. There are 116 well matched barrel-shaped 10mm x6mm beads and an imam bead which is 40mm long and 7mm wide at the base. There are also 2 separator beads which appear to be plastic.

The strand is 28 long (without the imam bead) and weighs 40g. The coral beads are old, worn, antique natural untreated black coral from the Red Sea. Some beads show substantial wear, a few are chipped. Some of the silver inlay has gaps, where the silver wore out over time.

Please see the photos for detail. Collectible beads, a favorite among jewelry designers, they are becoming increasingly rare. The exact age of these beads is not known, but they likely date to the early 1900s or earlier based on the fact that the coral is quite worn and aged, light espresso color, as can only be seen on the very old coral beads. (Newer black coral beads, dating to mid-to late 1900s, are typically shiny black).
