Vtg Natural Chinese Apple Tiger Coral Graduated Bead Necklace Collar Choker

  

This is a 17 1/4 inch necklace made out of a series of Chinese apple coral beads. If I have counted correctly, there are 35 beads, each of which has its own distinct size, coloring and matrix or markings.

The stones are graduated in size. The smallest stone beads have a diameter of approximately 3/8ths of an inch and the largest, 0.75 inch or 3/4ths of an inch. What makes apple coral so attractive in my view is its dazzling array and rich intensity of colors.

In this necklace, the palette includes peach, nectarine, coral, tangerine, cherry or apple red, dark red currant or cranberry, beige and ecru - with very occasional hints of grayish brown and charcoal. The colors are especially vivid because the stone beads have been highly polished. Well, I finally got a bright and sunny day with beautiful natural light. I think my new photos do this necklace justice. At least, on my smartphone, the colors look as vivid and luscious as they are in reality.
